Terms of Use

Last updated: 11 August 2026

These Terms of Use govern your use of the ByteCleaner macOS app and the bytecleaner.app website. By downloading or using the app you agree to these terms.

1. Scope of the app

ByteCleaner is a utility that scans, lists and — with your approval — moves to the Trash the cache and derived data files produced by developer tools on macOS. The app only scans known cache and derived data locations; source code directories, documents and personal files are out of scope.

2. Disclaimer

Deletions are performed with the user’s selection and approval. The app never moves or deletes a file until you have explicitly selected and confirmed it. Deciding which items to clean, and reviewing the list before deleting, is your responsibility.

Responsibility for any data loss, downtime or rebuild time arising from use of the app rests with the user. ByteCleaner and its developers cannot be held liable for any direct or indirect damages. The app is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose.

We recommend keeping regular backups of anything important.

3. Risk labels

The app marks every category with a risk level:

  • Safe: temporary data whose removal does not affect a typical development workflow.
  • Rebuildable: can be deleted, but the next build or package install may take longer.
  • Caution: contents vary by project and should be reviewed before deleting.

These labels are guidance and do not replace your own judgement.

4. Trash and undo

The default behaviour is to move selected items to the Trash rather than deleting them permanently. As long as you have not emptied the Trash, you can restore them. Once the Trash is emptied, recovery is not possible.

5. License and purchase

Core features are free and remain free. Pro features are unlocked with a one time purchase; there is no subscription and no automatic renewal. Purchases, refunds and billing are handled by the Apple Mac App Store and are subject to Apple’s terms.

The 14 day Pro trial does not require card details. When the trial ends, automation rules are paused; your data is preserved and you can keep using the core features.

6. Changes

These terms may be updated from time to time. The current version is always published on this page, and the date shown at the top of the page reflects the last update.
